Students will have the opportunity to learn about Confucianism Monday, March 21, when Grand Valley State University professor Peimin Ni visits campus. According to the event’s Facebook page, the professor will lecture on “the Gonfu Reading of Confucianism and its implications for philosophy.” His hour and a half long lecture, part of the philosophy speaker series, is in Halle Library room 300 at 5:30 p.m. This is free and LBC approved.

An EMU student was struck and killed by an Amtrak train, Thursday, just before midnight. According to a press release from the university that was emailed across campus, the victim was a young woman between the ages of 19-20 from Brownstown, Mich. and was a resident of Hill Hall.

St. Patrick's Day is Thursday, March 17. The Marketplace will be celebrating with Irish themed food from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. For $7.90, students can have Guinness infused corn beef, Irish herb potatoes and shamrock-themed cookies, according to the EMU calendar.

Eastern Michigan University art professor Camilla McComb has been awarded the Best of Show Award at the 52nd annual Michigan Education Association/Michigan Art Education Association exhibit. McComb submitted two photographs of an old-fashioned school desk in two locations.

Ypsilanti has not had a train stop in Depot Town since 1984, dating back far enough that many students on EMU’s campus do not know what life was like with it. City leaders want to change that. At a packed meeting of local and state leaders at Sidetracks bar, Friday afternoon, they announced that they are one step closer in making this happen again.

Eastern Michigan University students will have an extra free movie viewing, Monday, March 14. “Good Will Hunting” will be playing in the Student Center Auditorium at 12:30 p.m. This 19-year-old movie is about a janitor at MIT with a gift for mathematics. The late Robin Williams and a very young Matt Damon star in this movie.

Flint estimated it would save $5 million over two years when Darnell Early, Emergency Manager at the time, switched Flint’s water source from Detroit Water to the Flint River. Almost immediately the water changed color and residents complained about the smell.

The EMU swimming and dive team will host the MAC Championships Wednesday, March 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as part of a two day event. It will continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. all days. All three events will be at the Jones Pool. Attendance is free.
