EMU catches up with recycling efforts

Eastern Michigan University has seen several new initiatives and programs centered on recycling on campus, including offering recycling options during residence hall move-in week for the first time. But there’s work to be done, according to Steven Moore, EMU’s energy and sustainability manager.

Granholm's latest budget plan to tax entertainment tickets

In an effort to balance the state’s budget, Governor Jennifer Granholm announced last week her latest budget will include nearly $1 billion in tax increases, a few of which will force Michigan residents to tighten their spending even more. The plan calls for an additional 25-cent increase in the price of cigarettes, which already carry a $2 tax as it is.

Beginning a new habit, hobby or lifestyle takes a lot of work. During my first week as a vegetarian, I’ve had moments where I’ve thought, “One tiny piece of meat won’t hurt, right?” But I’ve also had more subtle moments where I’ve completely forgotten I had gone vegetarian at all.

Student tickets for Jay-Z’s Oct. 21 show at EMU’s Convocation Center went on sale yesterday. Though the tickets were scheduled to go on sale at 10 a.m., a line of fans eager to secure their spot began forming outside the ticket office even earlier.
