Senate leadership investigates eight-year old Facebook post from Senator Reid Scott

EMU Student Senate leadership investigates eight-year-old Facebook post depicting Sen. Reid Scott in black-face

A source who has asked to remain anonymous said that due to an eight-year-old Facebook post, members of the Senate may ask Sen. Reid Scott to resign or begin a removal process in the case that he refuses. Senate leadership cannot confirm but that “[t]he Student Body Senate is taking this very seriously and are investigating this matter.”

New academic program in Civil Engineering approved

A new academic program for a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering was approved by the Board of Regents on Feb. 13. The program is “STEM-designated” and will emphasize structural engineering, transportation, water resources, environmental engineering, and construction engineering.

EMU UACDC hosts internship fair

The EMU  University Advising & Career Development Center hosted an internship fair for students. 53 internship-providing organizations and four resource providing organizations were available for students to explore.

Our World, Our Story: A Conversation with Jay’Len Boone

Jay’Len Boone came to EMU’s Honors College to talk about his success as the eighth United States Youth Observer to the United Nations. An open panel discussion followed the lecture. This event was one of first this year in celebration of Black History Month.

Parking meter in Normal Street Lot

Ypsilanti plans to further monetize parking

Ypsilanti’s parking is being updated with paid and time-limited parking as well as updated meters. These updates may be costly but according to Mayor Beth Bashert, revenue will be generated from the project that will make up for the cost.
