Highland Cemetery offers lantern-lit tours in honor of Halloween

To make the tour more authentic, the only light provided is by a hand-held fuel lantern. During the tour, you are advised to watch your step, as you might trip over a tombstone. Highland cemetery is the resting place of many individuals who have had a great impact on Ypsilanti, including Mary Starkweather. Throughout the tour, James Mann explains the history behind the cemetery, using witty humor to also explain how some of the 15,000 “residents” passed.


'Paris Is Burning' screens in Student Center for OUTober

“Paris Is Burning,” the 1990 documentary directed by Jennie Livingston follows the ballroom culture in New York City and the African American, Latino and Transgender communities. With a vivid representation of gender bending, drag, and the art of vogue, it remains as one of the most legendary and revered documentaries in gay culture that continues to stand the test of time 23 years later.

Zombie Ball brings undead fun to Ypsilanti

In the spirit of Halloween, the fifth annual Zombie Ball held Saturday Oct. 12 at Woodruff’s in Depot Town had everything a zombie could ask for – music, DJs and some undead fun. Such ghoulish figures like the Captain Cornelius Crumplecustard and his companion Beau Barranco were in attendance for the night’s festivities.



Fashionality is more than just a fashion

Everyone hears of the excitement of Fashion Week in major cities like New York, Paris and Milan. Eastern Michigan University students had a taste of their own Fashion Week leading up to the big fashion show “La Dolce Vita, The Sweet Life” on Oct. 10.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Women’s Resource Center is holding a series of events over the next few weeks to raise awareness of domestic violence and offer solutions to those suffering from it.

Student Center art gallery displays Perspectives

The art gallery in the Student Center is holding a new exhibit, Perspectives, curated by professor Diana Pancioli. According to the Perspectives press release, “Perspectives presents new sculptural ceramic work exploring a diverse set of ideas.” It is also the first exhibition for sculptural ceramics the University Gallery has hosted, according to Gregory Tom, the program’s director.




	Pinky Promise has officially arrived at Eastern Michigan University with high hopes from Misha Byrd, president and Lydia Seale, vice president. Their vision is becoming a sisterhood bonded by their experiences and the chance to become closer to God with their choice of remaining sexually inactive until marriage.

A woman feeling liberated and unashamed of her sexuality in a society that is explicitly fueled by sexual images and acts is appreciated, but how often is a woman celebrated for remaining pure in every sense of the word?

Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center held its fourth annual BBQueer event Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. outside Bob’s Lakehouse on the north side of campus.

Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, the stars of the later years of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” completely eviscerated Paul Verhouven’s 1997 film “Starship Troopers,” making the RiffTrax live show one of their best shows yet.
