Eastern Michigan University is teaming up with Washtenaw Community College to expand both colleges’ nursing programs. To get a bachelor of science nursing degree, students will be able to take two years of classes at WCC, then do their final winter semester at Eastern, according to a press release from university communications.

Dr. Jamie Washington will be giving a lecture on privilege, Thursday, January 28th, in the Student Center's room 310 A at 7:00 p.m. According to the EMU calendar, the "president and founder of the Washington Consulting Group and the Social Justice Training Institute" will be examining privileged identities and communities. But the fact is that there aren't enough people donating to meet the number of people that need a transplant.

The Women's Resource Center is going to be holding a discussion Monday Jan. 25 “to create a space for women to explore their political futures.” This will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and will include Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, along with current state legislature members Sen. Rebekah Warren, Rep. Kristy Pagan and former Rep. Maureen L. Stapleton. This is free and LBC approved.

The Women’s Resource Center hosted Meet the Movement Tuesday evening. This was a four-person panel on human trafficking. The panel included Kathy Maitland, Eastern Michigan University seniors Chrissy Chase and Jennifer Marcum from Unmasked and Supervisory Special Agent Michael Ball, from Homeland Security.

According to the Center for Disease Control, around 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the United States every year. The Eastern Michigan University Women’s Resource Center is going to be hosting a discussion on Cervical Cancer Awareness, Thursday, Jan. 21, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The nursing department’s Jenni Hoffman will guide the discussion in the Student Center’s room 352. They will be providing free education and discussion on statistics, prevention and detection for this cancer, which usually affects women over 30. This is free and LBC approved.

The LGBT Resource Center took over Student Center room 350 for its Winter Welcome Back this past Wednesday, Jan. 13. This was a stop-in party for anyone who wanted to come in and say, “Hello,” now that the semester is up and running. The LGBT Resource Center has hosted numerous events on campus such as this for a number of years now.
