Football Spring Game Kicks Off 2019 Campaign

The Eastern Michigan football team had their annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 13. Team Fink and Team Hale faced off in Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, as Team Fink came out on top 14-7 behind a touchdown from Karmi Mackey and Preston Hutchinson.

Eagles Lose On Walk-Off Single

The Eastern Michigan baseball team fell to Oakland, 10-9, at the Oakland Baseball Field in Rochester, MI on Wednesday, April 10. After falling down 5-0, the Eagles came back to take a lead on two separate occasions before allowing a walk-off single. Eastern Michigan is just 4-6 in their last 10 games.

EMU Baseball Wins One Versus Ball State

The Eastern Michigan baseball team finished a three-game weekend series on the road against Ball State with a record of 1-2 after winning the final game of the series on Saturday, April 13 in Muncie, Indiana. The Eagles lost the first two games before upsetting Ball State 7-5 in Game 3.

EMU Track and Field Compete in Tennessee Relays

Eastern Michigan’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. from April 11-13. Derek Ziegenfuss had the best performance from both teams after he shattered EMU’s school record in the javelin throw event on day two of the relays.

Eagles Baseball on Wrong End of Comeback

Eastern Michigan baseball gave up an early lead to lose 14-8 against Oakland on April 3 in Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti. The Eagles held an 8-2 lead heading into the top of the eighth inning, but a nine-run inning by Oakland gave them a 11-8 lead and eventually the victory.

EMU Baseball Takes Down Concordia

 The Eastern Michigan baseball team hosted Concordia on Wednesday, March 27, at Oestrike Stadium. It was the second home game of the season for the Eagles and they have won both. EMU defeated Concordia 11-6, a day after a win over Northwestern Ohio.

Spring Sports Recap

 The baseball team got the week started for Eastern Michigan athletics as they hosted Northwestern Ohio on Tuesday, March 26. They faced Concordia the following day while the track and field teams participated in four separate events which began on March 28 and ended two days later.

ESPN Gives EMU Students Broadcasting Opportunity

 Every year ESPN airs hundreds of live broadcasts of professional and collegiate athletics ranging from NFL football to division II rowing. ESPN can reach millions of viewers each year through its multiple cable channels and online streaming service. The company is giving EMU students a chance to gain valuable experience broadcasting Eastern Michigan’s games for ESPN.

How This NBA Season is Changing LeBron’s Legacy

 With the 2018-19 NBA season heading into the postseason, it is a surprise that it will not be featuring NBA superstar LeBron James. This is the first time James won’t be in the playoffs since 2005. This goes to show just how dominant James has been. How does this affect his legacy as potentially the greatest basketball player ever?

Men’s NCAA Tournament Begins

 The first full day of the 2019 NCAA Tournament began on Thursday, March 21, as Minnesota and Louisville faced off in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. There would be 32 games played in the next two days at various locations.

EMU Gymnastics Put Up Strong Scores at MAC Championships

 The Eastern Michigan gymnastics team placed third at the Mid-American Championships on Saturday in DeKalb, Illinois. The team finished with a 195.350 score, behind Northern Illinois (195.975) and Central Michigan (195.575). The Eagles fell 0.625 points short of winning their fourth conference championship.

EMU Football Hosts Pro Day

 Eastern Michigan held their 2019 Pro Day on March 22 in their indoor practice facility, showcasing their 12 draft-eligible players in front of pro scouts. Over a dozen teams from the NFL and CFL were in attendance for the Pro Day. Some notable teams were the Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

EMU Baseball Swept Over the Weekend

  Eastern Michigan Baseball opened Mid-American Conference play with a three-game series sweep versus rival Northern Illinois on March 22-24 at Ralph McKinzie Stadium in Dekalb, Ill. This marks the fifth time that the Eagles have been swept this season, leaving them with a MAC worst record of 3-19-1. The Huskies on the other hand now have a slightly better record of 7-16.

Buffalo Women’s Basketball Captures MAC Title

 The Buffalo women’s basketball team has won the MAC Tournament championship, taking down Ohio in the championship game Saturday, March 16 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The Bulls will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history, after reaching the Sweet Sixteen last season.

Danielle Minott Earns All-MAC Honors

 Eastern Michigan senior forward Danielle Minott earned honorable mention All-MAC honors, alongside Oshlynn Brown (Ball State), Kendall McCoy (Miami RedHawks), Mikaela Boyd (Toledo Rockets) and Deja Wimby (Western Michigan). Minott averaged 13.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in her senior season.

Eastern Michigan Men’s Basketball Season Recap

  Going into its eighth season under head coach, Rob Murphy, the Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team had high optimism for the 2018-19 season. However, the Eagles finished the season with a 15-17 overall record. The team finished third in the MAC West with a 9-9 conference record.

EMU Baseball Explodes For 10-2 Win Over Dayton

Eastern Michigan baseball defeated Dayton 10-2 on the road on March 12, 2019 in Dayton, Ohio. The Eagles had their most explosive offensive performance of the year, and were led by two hits, two runs and one RBI from Zachary Owings.

EMU Gymnastics Sticks the Landing

 Eastern Michigan’s final dual meet at home of the season yielded arguably its best performance as they beat Kent State 196.025-193.900. On a night that was dedicated to the outgoing senior members, the underclassmen led the way for the Eagles.
