The Eastern Michigan University track and field team competed at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships from Thursday, May 12, through Saturday, May 14 at Kanley Track & Field Complex in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Eagles produced wins in five events on the final day, cementing the men’s team second place finish with 155 points and the women’s third place finish with 108 points. Kent State took home the men’s title as they produced 196 points in the event. Akron took home the women’s title, tallying 124 points.
The Eastern Michigan University track and field team finished the 2022 regular season at the University of Michigan’s Len Paddock Open on Saturday, May 7. The Eagles won the men’s and women’s triple jump, as senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed produced a 14.85m jump, and fellow classmate Alisha St. Louis produced a jump of 11.79m. Sophomore Ousman Kamara tallied another victory for the Eagles in the high jump with a 2.00m.
Eastern Michigan’s track & field program headed to Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Classic, April 22-23. Kadian Clarke recorded a toss of 60.77m in the hammer throw making her the only person in EMU history to surpass 60 meters.
The Eastern Michigan University track & field team competed at the Tennessee Relays on April 7 through April 9 at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium. On the first day, junior Newlyn Stephenson and sophomore Miranda Cadwell highlighted the day, both achieving top-10 performances for the program. Stephenson threw a personal-best throw of 64.36m, topping his previous record of 63.97m.
On April 8-9, some members EMU track and field participated in the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Rochester, MI. Chevonne Wheeler and Maleah Scott competed in their first collegiate heptathlon over the weekend.
Eastern Michigan University’s track team traveled to East Lansing on April 1 to compete in the two-day Spartan Invitational. During day one of the Spartan Invitationals, the eagles' throwers had a solid showing with an individual first-place performance, two-second place performances, and two new personal records for additional eagle teammates.
The Eastern Michigan University track and field team competed in North Carolina at the Raleigh Relays on March 24-26, and also in Coral Gambles, Florida for the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on March 26. The program saw many personal-best performances from its members throughout the three-day showdown.
On Friday, March 11, Taige Bryant and Newlyn Stephenson competed in the NCAA championship for weight throw. Bryant placed sixth with a throw of 22.21m and Stephenson placed 11th.
The Eastern Michigan University track and field team competed at the Kent State Field House for the MAC championship on Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26. The mens' team went on to secure its second consecutive MAC championship, as they finished in first place with a score of 166. The womens' team fell short, earning second place with a score of 84.5. Junior Baldvin Magnusson was named MVP, and director and head coach, Sue Parks, was named men's Coach of the Year in the MAC.
Eastern Michigan track & field claimed victories over Akron and Buffalo at the Akron Quad Meet. Taige Bryant completed a new personal best of 22.85m in the weight throw, ranking second in the nation and first in the MAC.
Eastern Michigan track will kickoff the 2021-22 season at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec.3 Last season the program collected many accolades and saw 14 athletes named All-Americans.
The Eastern Michigan women’s golf team tied Ball State for fourth place in the MAC Championships this weekend at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. The men’s team finished in a tie with Nebraska for 10th place out of 13 teams in the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. The women’s track team competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. from April 18-19.
Eastern Michigan’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. from April 11-13. Derek Ziegenfuss had the best performance from both teams after he shattered EMU’s school record in the javelin throw event on day two of the relays.
The baseball team got the week started for Eastern Michigan athletics as they hosted Northwestern Ohio on Tuesday, March 26. They faced Concordia the following day while the track and field teams participated in four separate events which began on March 28 and ended two days later.
Eastern Michigan men’s track and field finished in second place with 153.5 points in the final day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships in Kent, Ohio.
