Eastern Michigan University is ready for business again now that break is over.
Eastern Michigan University has received more Fulbright Scholarships, a scholarship created to promote international education exchanges, than any other masters-level university for 2015-16. The Fulbright Scholarship is a program that was created by the State Department in 1946 and provides 8,000 scholarships per year.

The International Conversation Club will be meeting in King Hall 319, Thursday Feb. 18, at 3:30 p.m. This LBC approved gathering is for international and American students to discuss a multitude of topics from different international perspectives.
The International Student Association filled Student Center room 310 with red and pink balloons, Saturday, Feb. 13 for its Valentine’s night. The association has about 800 members from 86 nationalities, according to ISA president Muneez Patel.
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will be visiting Eastern Michigan University at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15, at the Convocation Center. He will talking about his candidacy and policies he would like to put in play should he be elected. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. According to Sanders’ campaign web site, this free event is going to focus on college affordability, health care and "getting big money out of politics.” This is free and open to the public, but the campaign has asked people to RSVP.
Eastern Michigan University's 23rd president, James Smith, was elected Friday, February 12, in a special session of the Board of Regents. Immediately after, president-elect Smith held a press meeting with The Eastern Echo, Detroit News, Free Press, Ann Arbor News and Michigan Radio. The Board of Regents room in Welch Hall was packed with people from across the state, Friday, as the Board of Regents formally elected Dr. James Michael Smith as Eastern Michigan University's 23rd president.

Delta Sigma Phi is hosting a Frozen Fall on Feb. 11 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in University Park and Big Bob’s Lake House to benefit the American Red Cross. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $50 prior to completing the jump in hopes of raising awareness and support of the American Red Cross.
During the Board of Regents meeting Feb. 5, the Provost’s New Faculty Awards were announced. These awards are meant to encourage a new wave of research and creativity at Eastern. The Regents approved $145,264 in awards for faculty members to use in their first or second year of employment during the 2017 fiscal year, according to a press release from University Communications. The 31 awards went to new faculty members studying everything from chemistry, to sociology, to economic research.

With the Iowa caucuses over and the New Hampshire primaries right around the corner, President Obama is in his last year of administration. The Department of Africology and African American studies held a discussion panel on the third floor of McKenny Hall this past Wednesday, Feb 3, to discuss and predict how his time in the White House will be viewed in history.
Eastern Michigan University’s clinical psychology doctoral program has been ranked 30th out of 50 in the latest list put together by bestcounselingdegrees.net. The only other Michigan college found on the list, the University of Michigan, was ranked 47th.

The Vision Volunteer Center is going to bridge the gap between Eastern Michigan University students interested in doing volunteer work and the charities that need volunteers. Its Community Fair will be in the Student Center Ballroom Thursday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
